One year after the Arab Spring, how to assess the political and economic situation for the southern and eastern Mediterranean countries (SEMC)? FVC&PA participates at a breakfast debate on these issues, December 2, 2011

The 01/12/2011

A year ago, the revolution in Tunisia was the starting point of a major uprising, paving the way for a beginning of democratization. This revolution has been a major source of the "Arab Spring". It has spread to many southern and eastern Mediterranean countries (SEMC), including Egypt, Libya and Morocco, before reaching even Yemen and Bahrain.

The international community is committed to facilitating the transition to democracy and the economic and political reconstruction of these countries, by advocating for individual liberties and social cohesion.

However, this reconstruction will be possible only by bringing together all political, economic, industrial and scientific stakeholders. While SEMC countries are still marked by political conflict and uncertainty, they have a very high economic potential.

Given its expertise on Euro-Mediterranean region, FairValue Corporate & Public Affairs supports the rapid implementation of economic and social reforms, that respond to people?s will for change and prosperity.

Jean-Marc Delahaye, Consultant at FVC&PA, will attend the political breakfast organized by the IPEMED, in partnership with the International Diplomatic Academy, 2 December 2011 on the theme:

"One year after the Arab Spring, what political and economic balance in the southern and eastern Mediterranean countries (SEMC)? "

Speakers include:

- Sophie Bessis, Director of Research at IRIS, specializes in the North / South cooperation,
- Jean Pierre Filiu, professor at Sciences Po and historian of contemporary Islam,
- Mehdi Lahlou, economist, professor at the INSEA - Rabat.
